Stream Deck on LinuxA StreamController guide Install

Your Stream Deck, working on Linux.

Elgato never made a Linux app. StreamController fills the gap: a free, open-source app that runs every key, dial and page on your Stream Deck.

Version 1.5.0-beta.16, released 22 August 2026. stream-deck.zip, 4.0 MB, for Linux.

Pages, not just buttons

A page is one full layout of keys. Make one for streaming, one for work, one for music, and jump between them with a key, or let StreamController switch for you when you change windows.

Try it on the deck: switch pages below, or press the keys that lead to another page.

Press a key, or switch pages.

What it does on your desk

The same job Elgato's app does on Windows: put an icon on each key and run something when you press it. A few parts go further.

  • A plugin store inside the app

Install OBS, Home Assistant, Spotify, volume and media controls with one click. Icon packs and wallpaper packs come from the same store.

  • Pages that follow your windows

Open Spotify and the music page appears. Focus your editor and the coding page takes over. Works on GNOME, KDE, Hyprland, Sway and X11.

  • Wallpapers across the keys

Stretch one image or video over the whole deck, and set a screensaver for when you step away.

  • Locks when your computer does

When the session locks, the deck stops accepting presses until you log back in.

  • Sticky keys on every page

Pin a key so it shows on all pages, without copying it into each one.

  • A command line for scripting

Change pages, press keys, set brightness and edit labels from a shell script or over D-Bus.

Questions people ask first

Does the Elgato Stream Deck work on Linux?

Yes. Elgato only makes its Stream Deck app for Windows and macOS, but the hardware is a standard USB device. StreamController is a free Linux app that drives it: it draws the key images, runs actions when you press keys, and switches pages.

Is StreamController free?

Yes. It is open source under the GPL-3.0 licence, with no paid tier and no account. Plugins in its built-in store are free too.

Which Stream Deck models work?

The Original (including V2 and MK.2), Mini, Mini Discord Edition, XL, Neo, Stream Deck +, Stream Deck + XL, Studio, Pedal and the Stream Deck Modules. Two decks from other makers, the Mirabox Stream Dock 293S and Ulanzi D200, are experimental. Full device list.

Can I use plugins made for Elgato's Stream Deck software?

No. Plugins written for Elgato's app do not run in StreamController. It has its own plugin store with OBS, Home Assistant, Spotify, Discord, volume mixer and many more. Browse the plugins.

How do I install it?

Download stream-deck.zip from this site, extract it, and run ./install.sh inside the folder. The script works on Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, Fedora, Arch and Manjaro. Step-by-step install.
